A very happy new year to one and all. This year I am launching tunes of the month which you can see when you scroll down the page. The idea of this is to include music which invokes Christian themes of love, hope, faith and gratitude to name but a few. I am also hoping to continue knitting for the Mother Bear Project and you will be able to find out more about this wonderful organisation on my links page. Below is an example I have knitted previously:
Knitting is such a wonderful creative way to engage the mind and I find the continuous movement of the needles quite hypnotic, as does my cat Dexter lol! Anyhow if you are interested in joining me in my knitting ministry please feel free to contact me.
Reading the bible inspires me and Psalm 121 illustrates the assurance of God's protection as follows:
I lift my eyes to the hills from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from ALL evil; he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time on and forevermore.
JANUARY - 2017
Today at mass I felt immense joy at the thought of beginning another new year afresh. It is as if all the problems of the past are now left behind and I can continue with a clean slate. Going to confession feels much the same, in that we have made our peace with God and have unburdened ourselves from our worries. I wish you all a very peaceful and happy new year. :-)
Tune of the month - This year I have decided to introduce a tune of the month, which encompasses a Christian theme and gives people hope. This month in January I would like to mention 'You've got the love' by Candi Staton a great song, which I danced to a lot in the eighties, without fully knowing what it was about...I just thought it had a great beat! Now in my late 40's I understand the undertones of this song, and how it can bring hope to those who are feeling lost. Here it is a blast from the past...enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N87qW9_r_aA
February - 2017
This month is the month of love, as we celebrate St Valentine's Day on February 14th. We must remember that God's infinite love for each and every one of us never fades. Before I met my partner Paul, I was alone for quite some time and so Valentine's Day was not always a welcome celebration ...particularly when society constantly bombards you with images of loving couples celebrating their special day together!
However once we accept God into our lives, we realise that we are never alone, and that God's love is always there for us to depend on at any time. Like all love, it needs nurturing and so attending church and praying, helps water this devotion to our Lord.
Tune of the month - this month my tune of the month is Love etc by the Pet Shop Boys. This song is very catchy and it tells us the story of how obtaining all the things that the secular world can offer, does not make you truly happy. I believe God's love will lift us up, even on our darkest day. Here is my tune of the month...enjoy! PetShopBoys
This is the month of springtime, new beginnings and daffodils. My tune of the month this month is going to be 'A satisfied mind' by Porter Wagner. This song is about gratitude and how looking back on our lives and being grateful for the things we have, is something that will bring us true peace of mind, and hopefully closer to God. This is also one of my Dad's favourite songs so that is why I am including it here.
There is great wisdom in the saying count your blessings and it is important to remember to thank God for all that we have, for without God in our lives we would cease to live a fruitful life.
Happy Easter to all. This is the month of renewal, of spring cleaning and of the resurrection of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Like a butterfly emerging into the world for the first time, it's beautiful wings flying through the air. We celebrate new life in spring and we celebrate that Jesus has risen from the dead. Here is a song by Dolly Parton - Love is like a butterfly, which celebrates the glorious feeling of love and the gentle way that it effects us all. Enjoy!
Welcome to May, here in this month we honour Our Lady by praying the rosary. The song that I would like to introduce this month is called Shining Light performed by Annie Lennox. It is a very uplifting tune and it inspires me to think of God and to be grateful of all the blessings I have in my life..enjoy xx
Here we are and it is June already! The time just goes so fast! This month we celebrate Pentecost which reminds us of how important the Holy Spirit is in our lives. The tune I am picking for this month, I suppose is a sad tune but I feel that it is helping me heal on a spiritual level, and that is why I have chosen Don't ask me Why by the Eurythmics as a kind of healing therapy. However I believe the Holy Spirit will lead me closer to the Lord and so God bless to all this June.
July 2017 and August 2017
Here in the month of July we celebrate the feast day of St Maria Goretti who is a saint that I have a special devotion to. In August I have decided to devote some of my time to knitting for Threads of Compassion based in Oklahoma USA. This charity is dedicated to providing hand knitted scarves to survivors of sexual violence, both men and women. I think this is a wonderful and simple way to offer comfort to someone. To find out more about this inspiring organisation please visit: Threads of compassion
The healing tunes I have chosen for July and August are as follows: Coldplay - Trouble and Bridge over Troubled Waters by Simon and Garfunkel may God give you pardon and peace and enjoy the summer God Bless you all wherever you are xxx
September is my birthday month and I have recently celebrated another year older. I would like to think wiser, but I will let God decide on that one :-) My tune of the month is one of my favourite hymns called 'I watch the sunrise' - listening to the beautiful words allows me to contemplate the deep love that God has for us all and how I would be totally lost without the Lord my Father, guiding me through this life at every twist and turn.
This month is also the month of change...children start a new school year, the weather starts to turn cooler and suddenly the trees are shedding their precious leaves. To me it symbolises new beginnings and the hope that I can try and serve God in whatever he has in store for me . May God bless you all and have a happy September xxx
